Route: Crianlarich – Invernanan ( Drovers Inn) Sept 2006
Summary
Still taking it easy and poor weather I decided to do this very short walk with Brain and Mary
Start near the railway station take to the west highland way simply follow the well maintained path way southwards crossing over the A 82 a couple of times
at beinglas farm there is a pub/restaurant , which has camping , wigwams, chalets even has a place to shelter for campers , well worth a visit.
Before setting out on this trip i was warned by people on the bus that The world famous drovers inn , is a must see , one person suggested that your not a hill walkers until you have visited it. Our Final destination was indeed the “ Drovers” and yes I was gob smacked , entering the pub there was a 6 foot grizzly stuffed bear, and seated near the door was a small band playing Scottish music, the place was dark and dusty only lit by the tall candles and sunlight shimmering through the windows, the waiters/. Waitresses ( mostly Australian) wore kilts ,
When you look down you see the floor boards look like they have been there since time began and wonder what storeys they could tell. On the far right corner there is a few champagne bottles with autographs and a few off shaped URNS. Yes,……. Urns….. filled with peoples ashes. Although they are real small and I wonder if it was indeed ashes merely accumulated before the smoking ban
The pub was supposed built in 1705, I reckon It has not seen a duster or mop since 1706, I don’t mean that in a n insulting manner, I think if this place was cleaned it would indeed spoil the UNIQUE atmosphere it had
If anyone in the Drovers dares read this do not change a hair of the place
