Ben Venue “ Mountain of Caves” is a Graham 10 miles West of Callendar, there are two peaks 2393 and 2386 ft. high.
There was about 15 of us that set out.We chose to climb from Loch ard to Loch Achry, my particular chosen route I had programmed in to my GPS was to come up through the trees West of The forest Hills Hotel Kinlochard , But we thought it might be muddy and got the bus to stop at “ The Glassert” We approached the gate with the bus still standing on the gate was a sign “ Beware of Wild Boar”. As we approached the fence a landrover was approaching the gate from the inside, one of our leaders had a chat with him and it appeared he was reluctant to let us through.
So we boarded the bus back and went on to the route I had planned, having deep thoughts on the legality of the gentleman that prevailed us from entering his land, cant help wondering if it was true about the sign or merely a sign to keep our fellow walkers out.
Indeed the course was muddy all the way through the nice natural woodland, but had it had nice little waterfalls and weirs. The path more or less takes you all the way up, to the first Cairn going over to the second hill is worthwhile for the glorious Views of the Trossachs.
It was windy that day the Wind I reckon was 40-50+ MPH we never stayed on the Summit to long .
having pondered going back VIA the “Belach nam Bo, or cattle pass, through which were driven to the refuge of the Trossachs the herds lifted by the Highland marauders in their excursions to the lands south of Loch , because of the intense weather we decided to go back down Via “Gleann Riabhach”, again was a bit slippery and muddy in places I slipped about a dozen times not injuring myself apart from my dignity. A nice walk back Through the Forestry commissions Forrest. Was another Nice day with lots of nice people.
Our route finished at the “Achray Hotel”, where the bus was waiting to pick us up at the car park a few hundred yards north.
