Caledonian May 2009

Ben Vrackie

Was another fine day I can not remember the last time that I walked in the Rain.

4 of us got dropped at the Mulin Hotel . Leo,Brian Charlie and I.

I have lost count How many times that I have conqured this fine Corbett. Maybe it is because of the panoramic Views ( on a good day) or is it because it has a path all the way to the summit making it an exclellent training mountain? With easy reach from my home town . all i know is on a good day you can see all the way to the glencoe hills and as far south as the lomond hills . you even can make out craigowl and auchterhouse hills.

at first we walked the usual route via the car park and then following the path up via the Lochan / from here it is steep but should not take any longer than 45 mins to get to the top. we were a tad slower and got to the summit in about 50 mins. even leo was impressed with the views. we then decided to go back a diffrent route we headed to the shoulder and headed west to a fence line on Meall and Daimh, then we followed the fence line down ( south westerly) it was very steep and I would not like to try this on a rainy day. I think we all fell a few times before reaching the base at a small place called druid. We then followed the road down to Killikrankie for a cup of tea at the visitors centre. We decided not to go via the usual route by the river but go Via Craigower Hill and then through the golf club and into Pitlochry.
