JOCKS ROAD July 2006
Cally
Summary

Still hobbling with my knee but getting better I decided to do Jock’s Road
The weather was IDEAL nice and warm in the glens and a bit cooler up top.
Start from the Car park or braedownie farm, head westwards into glen doll forestry walk follow the sign posts to Jock’s road.
You will reach the main path at BNG NO26840,75980 please pause here there is a cairn which was erected on behalf of the club to one of the clubs members.
The going is fairly easy trek upwards a few boulders and a push will soon see you up to the top, when you reach the cairn lunkard you have a chance to do two munros are tolmont and tom budhie. Simply work out the best route as there is no obvious path up either.
Continue to the crow craigie, this is the highest point and also where a lot of people go the wrong way down.
As long as you head down to Loch Callattar your ok.
We found ourselves overshooting the so called path but none of us found ANY Path that led down to the Loch, it was more like a free for all and found our own way down.

Try and pick up the path on either side of loch Callater and head for the Lodge and Bothy at the end of the loch
Do not do what we all done about 20 of us walked into this building admiring the well equipped bothy only to discover in horror that someone was residing in it, the bothy is NEXT TO IT. The first building is used by the Mountain rescue. There were a few red faces that day

Continue to Auchalater this is where jocks officially ends, and where the bus was waiting but instead of sitting and waiting a further 2 hours on a bus on people finishing I decided to continue onto braemar and relax with a cool pint of coke.

Route Distance: 24.6 km
Estimated Time: 8:57
Total Ascent: 818 m
Total Descent: 736 m
